Subject: Leadership in South Carolina
Date: June 30, 2009
America's success is due to two fundamentally important uses of leadership: Strong effective leadership for families and strong effective leadership for government. Most recently, the governor has traveled around the nation saying that everything is fine here in South Carolina and that neither the state nor South Carolina families need help. He has traveled around the world for personal reasons that have distracted him from the leadership role for his state and family.
Both his family and state are in chaos and simply coasting along with the coastal tides and challenges of unemployment, school effectiveness and many other important issues. Meanwhile the governor tells the nation and world that South Carolina is doing just fine and does not want or deserve any help.
Please be certain to understand that I want the very best for the governor and his family and the State of South Carolina. Each need effective full time leadership. I am sympathetic for the governor and his family. Nevertheless, the need for leadership in both arenas is more critical than ever. We all need effective leadership now. We must realize that time is not our friend and we need effective leadership now.
All of the circumstances of recent events suggest that it is in the best interest of all to start a new ball game with a new leader. New fresh leadership will immediately open up new opportunities while allowing the governor to focus on the most important issue of all-strong American families and especially his own.
Legally it appears that it is up to Governor Sanford and his belief of what he thinks provides the best leadership for South Carolina at the current time. He may very well have the best and most obvious opportunity to demonstrate true, real and effective leadership. This is not about forgiveness of sins as I trust these matters to the Lord. It is all about today's realities.
The facts say that both the state and the Sanford family need full time attention with leadership that is totally focused without distractions.
Consequently, I think it is best for the governor to resign. I encourage him to focus exclusively and whole-heartedly on his family and allow the state to get new fresh leadership and turn the tides about what we hear and see on national TV about South Carolina. South Carolina is a great state and we all need to have its best and true story told.
